WEAR YOUR CONVICTIONS ON YOUR SLEEVE STORIES |

Someone's Dad We got this message forwarded to us from our friends at the ACLU. Being somewhat technologically challenged, I (Anne) can't figure out who sent it, but here it is: I just learned on returning from a week's absence, that while I was gone, my son participated in a high school protest against the war. He posted informative flyers on Wednesday (repeatedly, as they were repeatedly removed), posted the flyer to his own shirt when school staff prohibited his posting on school property, and as a result, was sent home for not removing that flyer. He had learned of the protest through http://www.anti-flag.com/addedpages/waratschool.htm, which provided advice and links to ACLU. He read the information, followed the suggestions, and RESPECTFULLY held his ground defending his right to free speech. He DID talk to the principal and administrator, did reference ACLU, and when he DID return to school an hour later after being asked to leave, they let him in with no further discussion. The armband protest then went on without a hitch on Friday. Thanks to all of you who are each doing whatever part you can. Seeing This action by my son, I KNOW we ARE doing something right here! |
