WEAR YOUR CONVICTIONS ON YOUR SLEEVE STORIES |

chris hicks Wichita, Kansas That day was HELL for me. Within 5 minutes of being at school, me and my other friend who joined in were called into the office. We were being called a disturbance in the class room, and Keegan(my friend) said, "They are plain white armbands, we aren't annoying or bothering anyone. We don't support killing or working in sweatshops." and I said, "If they have a problem with looking at our arms they can look at our faces." and we were told we were being kicked out of school for the day since we refused to remove them. I then said, "I will contact my mother(who works on the school system and had it approved) and then ACLU." That mention of ACLU freaked out the vice princple and we had to talk to the big man. He told us we were allowed our views, and we had no right to enfore them on others. We then said, "We have not enfored them, we have simply put armbands on our arms and done nothing out of the ordinary." He was VERY upset by our not doing what he told us to do, but sent us to class. Through out the day people talked to us about what it ment and we noticed by the end of the day probably 30 other kids wearing something made of white around their arm, including some teachers. It made a big impact, but it also made a lot of pro-war people wear red armbands today(Monday) in support of the war. But their choices, not ours.
