Day 22 - Hurry up and WAIT!

Day 22 – Day Off – Drive Day - Hurry up and WAIT!
Our day off would have been unbelievably annoying if I weren’t programmed to have low expectations for days off. “Day off” usually means an extra day to complete a very long drive. The day consists of sitting on the bus and reading, watching a movie, eating… It’s not too bad, but on the other hand, after 5-6 hours you’re ready for it to be over and it has just begun! It’s kind of like a long plane ride… it gets mind numbing and boring, and even though you’re simply sitting on your ass all day, somehow it leaves you feeling exhausted at the end.
Our drive actually started the night before. Our bus driver planned to drive all night and into the early afternoon. Then we’d break at a scenic lake where we’d crash out in hotel rooms and mess around on the lake. HELL YES!
Unfortunately, our driver underestimated the distance and could not complete the drive. Actually, because German law dictates that bus drivers are only allowed to drive continuously for a certain amount of time, our driver had to pull over at a rest stop in the middle of nowhere! Outside of a few cows, the only thing there was a McDonalds!
There was a hotel not too far away so we decided to get a room or two and hang out there. As the day went on we waited and waited in front of McDonalds for the cab we called. When it finally arrived we found that we could only transport 4 people at a time. It took maybe 2 hours to get everyone to the hotel! We had a grand total of 4 hours before it was time to roll again.
The bus was going to pick us up at the hotel at 10pm. We packed the stuff we took to the hotel and waited for it to arrive. It did, but three hours late!!! Apparently, the bus got lost numerous times, as well as stuck down more than one alley that was too small for it to navigate through!!! The day was comical and ridiculous to say the least. Talk about planning at its best courtesy of everything unholy.
I think it’s time for me to reiterate a point I often make… If you are starting a band to be a rock star, give up now. If you’re starting a band because you love to play and you’re willing to do just about anything to do so, then keep rocking! Being in a band is mostly hard work, rough living, and boredom! Those who do it for reasons other than loving to play usually do not last long. PEACE OUT!
