Day 19 – Preston, UK – The Mill - Ferry Crossing
I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but our drive was LONG! 19 hours, including breaks and a ferry crossing across the English channel to the UK. We had to pick up a second bus driver to complete the drive.
I only got to sleep at 2am and had to get up for the ferry at 5am! That was rough.
When we finally got to the venue we were met first thing by a number of great kids! Some of them had driven from far away, which never ceases to amaze me! I am eternally grateful to kids who drive great distances to see us! In my wildest dreams I never imagined anyone would care enough about my band to go to one of our shows never mind drive a long distance to see us! For one kid from Switzerland, who I had met before, this was his 6th Anti-Flag show! That said, to anyone reading this who has made a long trip to see us, thanks a million!!!
Anyway, the kids were great and I had a great time! After our set we didn’t leave till 3am because our bus driver had to get extra rest after the 19 hour drive, so we hung out on the street behind our bus.
Around 1:30am two middle-aged drunk guys strolled by. They were fucking hilarious! They sung, danced, and asked the same questions over and over again, such as, “So why are you Americans just sitting here on plastic chairs in the middle of the night behind a bus? Is someone gonna come round to pick you up? Are you just gonna sit here all night? Where are you gonna sleep?” They kept us occupied for well over an hour.
One of their final exchanges with us went as follows, “Holy fuck! His Shirley is gonna to kill me! I told her we’d only be gone 20 minutes! That was hours ago! (laughs!!) Come on, we gotta go!”
“Yeah, I gotta be at work in six hours…”
